Curren$y performs in Atlanta/I meet Curren$y

For those who don't know, Atlanta hosted/is still hosting their yearly hip hop festival this weekend. The festival is known as the "A3C Hip Hop Festival." It features 150+ artists at 33 different events. Friday night at "The Five Spot" in little five points, my favorite artist in the game, Curren$y peformed. He was the second to last act of the night.

The show featured a number of "up and comers." Me and my dude Jamal became cool with one of the acts that performed before Curren$y. Dude's name was "Mike Terror." Him and his dj rolled around Atlanta with us before the show. Shit was completely random, but it was cool as hell.

Anyway, Spitta hit the stage around 1:30. As soon as he hopped on stage, I knew the shit was gonna be epic.

Spitta rapped all the faves. "Spit Vicious", "Blown Away", and "Modern day Hippie" just to name a few. He even rapped a few tracks from his mixtape with Wiz Kalifah, How Fly. The whole concert, I was standing above the crowd as I rapped to every track that he performed.

After he finished his performance, he left the stage. I was just chillin waitin on Jamal so we could roll out.

All the sudden I see Curren$y coming towards me. I was hoping I'd get the chance to dap him up and say good show.

I noticed as some other people were trying to talk to him, but he really wasn't payin attention to them. He pointed at me and said, "Im tryna holla at that nigga right there."

Dude comes up to me, daps me up, and says, "I do this shit for you." That shit was the cap to an amazing night.

That's why he's the fave. Not many artists do that these days. In all the commotion of mainstream rap, artists tend to lose that true connection with their fans. This dude peeped me in the crowd as a dedicated fan during his show, and then found me after just to let me know he peeped the dedication.

Shouts out to Curren$y for an amazing show. I was salty as hell though because my phone AND camera died so I didn't get a pic. But its all good. That surely won't be the last time I see Spitta live. Next time a pic will definitely be taken.

Kid Cudi: Man On The Moon: The End Of Day

Ok, so times have changed. Hard core rap is wack. Soul samples? Eh, leave it to Kanye. And really…really skinny has replaced really baggy. And amongst this new generation of change (which everyone seems to say about anything happening post Obama) there are young guns on the Hip Hop scene ready to split the shit wide open. I for one am a fan of these young rappers with swagger just as tough as the ol heads; because I quite frankly get tired of Jay Wayne Ye and TI all the time. These new kids on the block are ripped and primed with the tools essential for a complete takeover of the mainstream Hip Hop market…And then there’s Scott Mescudi. The black sheep of the bunch. But with a huge first single to boast, Cudi’s album released on the eve on one of the biggest albums of the year; and sizes up pretty well, if I may say. A native of Ohio, Cudi’s debut album, and supposedly his only, Man On The Moon: End Of Day was released on September 15, 2009. Early into the album the thematics make it seem as if you were listening from balcony seat at the opera. The beats knock with a feel of new soul, and Cudi seems intent making a movie of his life.

About seven tracks in though, in the Night Terror Scene, it becomes obvious that Mr. Mescudi looks to (vividly) drown in his own sorrow, and I fear to watch him would haunt me with the ghost of Phil Collin’s In The Air Tonight. The album feels so depressing at times I feel I should only play it to myself, as if to let others hear it would be spreading misery. A bright sport for many comes with “Simple As”…where hard drums met an ODM sample, and Cudi’s choppy flow and wordplay is crack. Although Cudi does officially give birth to the word “sapping” on this album, the guy does show rhyme skills here and there. On feat Billy Cravens he claims “But Ima be on time, when my stars align.”

Top to bottom, this may be the best album Hip Hop has seen in awhile (and let us not confuse a collection of songs with an album people). I personally like that Kanye didn’t take the reigns on every track, and I tip my hat to Cudi’s selection of beats, each complemented him to the tee. He introduces a new style, along with a new flow that many other “mc’s” are soon to be mimicking. And he has the ear of most hipsters under age 26. Being that he is 26 himself, I can’t help but draw comparisons, and feel that this album may have a College Dropoutesqe effect on Hip Hop…but then that thought is quickly batted from my mind..but it is there. Cudi is good, he will be the new guy to blow, if he keeps at it. But I don’t think he will, and quite frankly I don think he can. I don’t know if he can evolve the way the great artists do over time, and I don’t think he can hit a Man On The Moon: End Of Day every at bat. But I may be wrong. This album gives me faith; faith in not simply Hip Hop, but in music..good music. Faith in Cudi; hell man I feel this kid so much when Heart Of A Lion I feel like its me screaming “No No No No, Yea, No Yea.”

This is experimental. It isn’t rap. Before I’d heard the album I assumed it’d be his mixtape Kid Named Cudi times 10. And I was correct. This is not rap, it’s something else, but I like it. I think Cudi is on to something. He just shouldn’t be so sad all the damn time. I like Cudi Zone Cudi a lot. A whole lot. He has no genre, but he does have a debut album. And it is worth giving a listen because it is worth identifying with. You set the stage Cudi. It’s your time now Kid.

Kid Cudi Album

Yes. This is not a shoe post.

We are attempting to "diversify the porfolio" a little bit. Rather than just sneaker posts, we are going to try to add posts about whatever. Music, Technology, News, etc. Basically whatever the hell we want.

Now don't get it twisted, the focus will still be FOOTWEAR. Don't forget the name...Love Affair With Footwear. Don't forget the slogan..."Infidelity at its flyest." We are still going to stick to the roots....LAWF

That being said. Kid Cudi's album came out today. I don't know about yall, but I've been waiting for this album for a good minute.

I copped it around 11 am today with the homies Bryson (THE lawf artist) and Jamal. We even "broke in" the album Cudi style. Had to do it in honor of Cudder (lol).

But yea...I've given the album one full listen so far. I can never make a full judgement off of one listen; so I will definitely be giving another listen or two all the way through before I can make an accurate judgement.

Expect a review(s) from the homie and LAWF artist Bryson. He will be reviewing Cudi and Jay's new albums.

LAWF Snap Back Hats....yes

Yall may not know, but we are seriously trying to push this. LAWF snap backs will be our latest piece. The public will be able to pre-order soon. For right now, only a select few of my polygamists get to rock these. They're hot though right? The only error is that the >1 logo you see on the right side in the pic, should be on the left. It has already been fixed by the company though. So its allllllllllll good. The hat features: an invisibly stitched red crown, black top brim, neon green under brim to match the top button, the "unfaithful eyes" on the back, the >1 polygamy symbol on the left side, and "Love Affair With Footwear" printed repeatedly on the inside. I think I did a pretty good job with the design, huh?

A Name goes a long way

First off, I'd like to personally apologize for the lack of posts. Its been a while. I, and my team, have been extreeeeeeeeeeemely busy lately. But no excuses.

Anyway, BBC/Ice Cream will be releasing these in their Fall/Winter '09 collection. Personally, I don't think either pair is that hot. I mean the white ones are aiiiiiiiiiight I guess. These type of releases just prove that its all about the name. A large amount of people will buy these for the simple fact that they are BBC/Ice crean...smh. It's cool though. K-Swiss is really changing the game up with the release. These will be released later this month on August 29th. These go hard...foreal. K-Swiss collaborates with Partners & Spade. I don't know how much these will retail for, but whatever the price. You need to cop em. With only 266 pairs being sold, you need to hop on these quick. Not only do you get the shoes with your purchase, but you also receive a limited edition ping pong table. Steal? I think so.

That whole paragraph was a joke. Well everything but the limited ping pong table part (lol). Wack?Uh, yea. Anyway I don't know who is going to be unfortunate enough to cop these, but I feel sorry for them. August 29th. I guess Katrina won't be the only disaster to happen on this day now...smh.

Ahhhh Perks

For those of you who don't know, Dwayne Wade (Miami Heat superstar) left Converse and is now with Jordan. It's about time. I always felt Converse was never a respectable enough basketball shoe brand to fit the superstar status of Dwayne Wade. Maybe he was trying to "bring em back" in a sense...I don't know. Whatever the case, he has officially left the brand.

This picture, posted by D-Wade on his twitter page, is apparently HALF...yes...HALF of the Jordan branded shoes that D-Wade received by becoming a member of the Jordan team. While I am not surprised at the amount, it still is something that needs to be recognized. Many brands have been said to do this for new members of their "teams." Supposedly the perk for becoming a member of Pharrell's Billionaire Boys Club/Ice Cream team is a truck (U-haul size) showing up at your house filled with BBC/Ice Cream apparel. I have heard that singer Teyana Taylor was one of the latest to be blessed with this perk.

Anyway, congrats to D-Wade. I am certain that your stint with Jordan (however long it may last) willl be waaaaay more profitable and productive than your years with Converse. Converse apparently offered D-Wade unlimited Chuck Taylor Converses; but he was ironically not a fan of the shoe. I think D-Wade is pretty happy with Jordan's gifts...

And in the ongoing quest for the next "Boot" (After the utter collapse of Timberland, ACG, Blazer Boots, Yo Mama...), I just want to let the footwear world at large know, THERE ARE OTHER OPTIONS! The "andre boot" has beautiful frame, comfortable and relaxed, yet different enough to make sure that they can be worn in various settings. With bootcut or rolled up slim fit jeans, chinos or otherwise, these boots have the potential to do great things. Can you work these shoes?
